 Cut, Copy and Paste

Do you know the difference betweem Cut & Paste and Copy & Paste?

If you don't, you are not alone.  Many people find the difference confusing.  So what is the difference?

Cut & Paste - Cutting REMOVES the original text or graphic, ready for you to PASTE it in somewhere else.

Copy & Paste - Copying LEAVES the original text or graphic where it is and takes a COPY of it ready for you to PASTE it in somewhere else.

Before you cut/copy you must first tell the computer which bit of text (or which graphic) you want to cut/copy by highlighting it.

  • For a graphic, just click on it to select it.
  • For text, drag the mouse across the text - press the left mouse button, hold it down and drag the mouse across the text to be selected.  If you make a mistake - ALWAYS click to remove the highlighting and start again.
